One of a pair of genuine factory racers prepared by BSA race shop in 1957 for 1958 Singapore GP (the other was a 500). Other than meticulous assembly from selected parts, differentiating features from standard Gold Star include magnesium rockerbox and timing cover.
Bike is in largely unmolested condition. Paintwork and chrome reveals appropriate patina for a bike of this age kept in dry storage. There are signs that suggest some earlier detailing. Some bolts have chromed heads and spokes on rear wheel have been chromed and have surface rust. Chrome on tank is dull and there are signs of rusting on the bottom lip on one side. Clip-ons do not have welded-on perches so may not be original.
All mechanicals rebuilt recently at great expense. Has original racing Lucas magneto and GP1 carb although a concentric is fitted for ease of starting and around-town usage. Toolbox and oil tank is rounded type. Gearbox stamped RRT. Front brake is ribbed 8 inch. Rear brake ribbed. 19 inch Dunlop aluminium rims. Included in the sale is a brand new Evan Wilcox Lyta tank. Bike starts easily and is a pleasure to ride. Unmolested historic racing Gold Stars are like the proverbial hens teeth. It is probably the only genuine factory bike to survive in such original condition. Bike is in Perth, Australia. More photos available on request.
